Reben Luncheonette

Morir Sonando

At Reben Luncheonette, a metal citrus juicer sits in the window below a neon sign that reads MORIR SOÑANDO, both calling attention to their signature Dominican beverage. A Morir Soñando, literally translated “to die dreaming,” is like a Creamsicle. The charismatic Dominican men use a swift and firm stir to mix fresh squeezed orange juice, sugar, vanilla, evaporated milk and ice in a metal shaker. They pour the mixture into a tall glass and back into the shaker several times until perfectly chilled. The velvety milk tames the acidity of the juice, leaving you with a glass of pure orange cream delight!

Reben’s Morir Soñando is authentic, but the luncheonette also offers a twist called Tres Golpes in which they add fresh carrot juice to the mix.
